Economic literacy seminar coming to Raleigh

The Free Market Warrior is coming to the Triangle. Loren Spivack will present his two-day Economic Literacy Seminar class July 12 and 13 at the Peking Garden restaurant in Raleigh. The Triangle Republican Liberty Caucus is sponsoring the event.

Spivack is a popular speaker among conservative and libertarian groups and teaches study groups on classical economic theory.

“People will come away from this seminar with a very solid understanding of the foundation of economics and how it affects politics and everything in our daily lives,” said David Williams, chair of the state Republican Liberty Caucus. “The scales will come off their eyes.”

This highly informative and fast paced seminar is free, but you must RSVP to Sessions will start at 6 p.m. but participants are asked to arrive by 5:30 to enjoy the delicious menu at the Peking Garden.

“Mr. Spivack has a remarkable grasp of the principles of free market economics along with a wonderful talent for making these ideas relevant and accessible to people in their everyday lives,” said Bettina Greaves, former personal secretary to Nobel Prize winning economist Ludwig Von Misses

“His seminar is a must for anyone who wants to really understand what going wrong in America today, and what the solutions are.”

The seminar is divided into four parts:

  1. Intellectual and Historical Roots of Socialism: Understanding its broad appeal.
  2. The Intellectual and Historical Roots of Capitalism: Why we’ll starve without it.
  3. The Source of Value: Two contrasting views with implications that explain everything else
  4. Applying the Principles of Freedom to the Problems of Today: Taxes, education, health care, trade protectionism and outsourcing

Spivack is the founder of Free Market Warrior, “a website for people who want to do something.” The Massachusetts native studied history and political science at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He said he spent most of the last 20 years living in New York City and fund raising for charities.

Before founding Free Market Warrior, Spivack spent several years as a marketing and management consultant for various companies and non-profits.

On his website he writes, “If you’re content to sit quietly and watch as our great country is destroyed by the fanaticism and incompetence of a man who has no respect for the institutions and fundamental freedoms of America and desires only to remake them into European style socialism, you’re not going to like it here.”

Spivack is equally critical of Republicans. “If you think that big spending is fine as long as its done by people with an ‘R’ next to there name, you’re not going to like it here either,” he said. If Republicans get into power “ we’re going to have to start going after them. The unprecedented incursions of an inept yet stifling government into every corner of our lives needs to be rolled back, not just contained.
